For specific users of Android, Google’s new anti-theft features are beginning to roll out. These features make it more difficult for thieves to target Android devices. It makes it harder to reset and reuse stolen phones. The three new features are Thief Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock.Â
The purpose of these new anti-theft features is to stave off thieves from accessing private information by providing consumers with a fast way to lock down their devices if they are swiped. Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock were the first two features that Android writer Mishaal Rahman claimed to have mysteriously emerged on a Xiaomi 14T Pro on social media. Additionally, some Pixel users have begun to notice the Remote Lock function.
The Three Features
When someone physically takes your phone out of your hand, the theft detection lock activates. Google said in May that this function employs artificial intelligence (AI) to determine if someone takes your phone and tries to flee or drive away. The phone’s screen instantly locks when this occurs.
An additional security feature called Offline Device Lock locks the phone’s screen when it cuts off the internet, making sure that a burglar cannot disable security by disconnecting the connection.
Furthermore, users can remotely lock their phones with Remote Lock without needing to enter the password for their Google account. Users can immediately and safely lock the phone through a short security challenge on each and every device. They can even lock their phones with just your phone number.
We anticipate that more Android smartphones will soon have access to these features, although there hasn’t been a wide rollout yet. It will increase protection against phone theft and provide consumers with greater peace of mind when out in public.
