Pakistan has top scores in Global Cybersecurity Index 2024

On Friday, in a press conference held in Islamabad, the state minister for information and technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, celebrated Pakistan’s magnificent leap in international cybersecurity levels as Pakistan has secured top score in the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 report.

“The Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 shows significant improvements by countries that are implementing essential legal measures, plans, capacity building initiatives, and cooperation frameworks, especially in strengthening incident response capabilities. Pakistan has performed exceptionally well in the latest ranking and has been placed in Tier 1, alongside countries like the United States, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.” she said in the conference.

Pakistan was placed among the top-tier performers when it came to cybersecurity, and the study ranks hundreds of countries among many continents.

“The Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 shows significant improvements by countries that are implementing essential legal measures, plans, capacity building initiatives, and cooperation frameworks, especially in strengthening incident response capabilities.” according to the report.

In the study, these nation’s cybersecurity performance scores are shown by the tier division. Countries with the highest scores advance to the highest tier (Tier 1), whereas those that score the lowest are placed under Tier 5. Many aspects, like organizations measures, countries legal measures, technical measures, cooperation measures, and capacity developments, are given thought to. Here are all the tiers:

  • Tier 1: Role-modeling (score 95–100)
  • Tier 2: Advancing (score of 85–95)
  • Tier 3: Establishing (score of 55–85)
  • Tier 4: Evolving (score of 20–55)
  • Tier 5: Building (score of 0–20)

With a top score as high as 95-100, Pakistan was ranked in the highest tier (role modeling) in Global Cybersecurity Index 2024. Pakistan is now ranked among the globe’s most high-profile countries, such as Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Bahrain, Italy, Oman, and the United States.

For legal measures, Pakistan scored 20 (on a scale of 1-20), 18.21 for technical measures, 20 for organization measures, 20 for capacity development, and 18.48 for cooperation measures.

When it is about cybersecurity measures, Pakistan is considered a role model. Through this acknowledgement, Pakistan’s attentiveness to reinforcing its cybersecurity infrastructure and boosting its international status in the area is highlighted by this acknowledgement.

Pakistan ranked 79 in the earlier edition of the Global Cybersecurity Index report.
