BYD Officially enters Pakistan market with New Energy Vehicles

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD announced on Saturday about their plans to open a car production plant in Pakistan. That is where through a partnership with Mega Motors, it will start selling three car models.

Aly Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Mega Motor Co., commented: “Our vision is simple yet ambitious: to drive Pakistan’s future with sustainable mobility. We aim to lead the revolution alongside the world’s foremost NEV manufacturer, BYD, transforming how Pakistanis commute, from the cars you drive, to where you charge them, to where the energy used to charge them comes from. Our commitment goes beyond our customers and serves a wider national interest.”

BYD formally revealed the three cars that would be offered in Pakistan yesterday at a launch event held in Lahore: the Atto 3 (EV), Seal (EV), and Sealion 6 (PHEV).

Prominent individuals such as Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurengzeb, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, senior representatives of Mega Motors and BYD, and several business dealers were present at the event.

With no infrastructure for charging new electric vehicles (NEVs), BYD is the first significant entrant into the Pakistani market.

Liu Xueliang, BYD’s general manager for Asia Pacific, said is a statement “As the world moves toward a sustainable future, BYD is proud to be at the forefront of this transformation. Our entry into the Pakistani market is not just about bringing advanced vehicles to consumers; it’s about driving a broader vision of environmental responsibility and technological innovation.

We believe that our new energy vehicles will play a crucial role in shaping a cleaner and more prosperous future for both Pakistan and the world.”

The CEO of Hubco, Kamran Kamal, gave a speech to the audience and stated the goals for BYD in Pakistan. He declared that three advanced flagship stores would be opened by Mega Motors Co. and BYD in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

By the end of 2024, the company also plans to launch two SUV models and a sedan for sale.

Kamal stated in a statement “We plan to set up 20 to 25 dealerships across the country within the first three years. We will build the first state-of-the-art New Energy Vehicle (NEV) assembly plant in Karachi.”

He stated the company’s goal of every third Pakistani owning a BYD car within five years. He underlined that they are dedicated to ensuring that any Pakistani who aspires to own a car can afford a BYD.

To make their customers feel at ease, Kamal disclosed that the business intends to build electric car charging stations in key cities as well as alongside motorways and highways.

Known for being the top producer and sales of electric vehicles worldwide, BYD’s arrival in Pakistan represents a major turning point for the nation’s auto sector. The company is well known for producing diverse range of products such as EV buses, smartphone batteries, semiconductors, and even electric rails for city metros.
