Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer Officially Assumes Role as CEO Telenor Group

On December 2, 2024, Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer formally took over as CEO of Telenor.

Fasmer was the CEO of Sparebank1 Sør-Norge until recently. The past few weeks have been spent in Telenor getting to know new coworkers.

Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer said:

“Telenor has a strong footprint in both the Nordics and Asia. I will now use some time to listen, learn and understand our business, customers and people. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to get a head start in recent weeks. I have already met many talented people who are really passionate about Telenor’s success. I really look forward to officially joining the team”.

Transition from Long-Standing Leadership

Sigve Brekke, who oversaw Telenor for more than nine years, is succeeded by Fasmer. Although the hiring of the new CEO was announced in May, it is happening now.

Jens Petter Olsen, Chairman of Telenor’s Board, expressed trust in Fasmer’s ability. Olsen said:

“Benedicte has demonstrated strong leadership and vision. Telenor has delivered impressive results in turbulent times, but the pace of technological advancement demands continued innovation. I’m confident that Benedicte is the right leader to chart our future course”.

Leading a Global Telecommunications Leader

Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, who has been the CEO of Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge for the past four years, has experience in group management from DNB and Fremtind Forsikring. She was a member of the Supervisory Council of Norges Bank and has board experience from Vipps and the Oslo Stock Exchange.

She will serve as the CEO of 11,000 workers in Asia and the Nordics at Telenor. Telenor boasts 211 million subscribers in eight regions, including Malaysia’s CelcomDigi and Thailand’s True.

Fasmer said in a statement,

“Telenor, with over 170 years of history, stands as a cornerstone of society. Our services and infrastructure are integral to the communities we serve and our customers’ daily lives. We are committed to maintaining this trust and will continue to uphold Telenor’s strategic direction. I am also looking forward to explore the opportunities that technology represents for Telenor.”
