The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to act quickly to remove offensive and pornographic content from social media.
Over the availability of such information, the ministry expressed its serious worries in a letter to the PTA. In the letter, the government highlighted the importance of its elimination in order to maintain the nation’s moral and religious norms.
Concerns were verbalized by the ministry about Pakistan’s increasing usage of internet pornographic material and its disastrous effects on public morals and on social unity were emphasized.
The ministry highlighted the need to address the ethical and societal ramifications of unfettered access to such material, citing this trend as particularly alarming. The ministry has called for the PTA to act immediately in response to this concern.
The ministry said that explicit and blasphemous content is still available on a number of internet platforms, despite the PTA’s earlier aggressive actions, such as blocking pornographic content as ordered by the Supreme Court.
