Verified blue checkmarks were a social media and internet status sign prior to Elon Musk making them available to all users through X but it looks like Google is bringing this exclusivity back. Verified checkmarks are being tested by the internet giant in its search results.
A limited subset of Google users is able to access this new service. Anyone who has used social media recently would recognize it. This is how it will seem.
This development has conflicting ramifications. One advantage is that it limits general users’ access. Nevertheless, influencers and celebrities in the media are currently not included.
Their main objective of blue checkmarks is to confirm the legitimacy of business links, which is a vital function given the pervasive spam problems affecting search engine of Google. Google has released a disclaimer claiming that it “cannot guarantee the reliability” of any business or its offerings, despite this attempt to increase customer trust.
Molly Shaheen, Google’s spokesperson for public affairs told The Verge:
“We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google.”
You won’t be able to see this function just yet because, as was previously noted, it is currently still in the testing stage. When or if Google intends to make this capability available to the general public is unknown.
