VPNs are not being blocked in Pakistan

On Tuesday, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) dispelled rumors and verified that virtual private networks are not being blocked in Pakistan in contrast to media claims. PTA assured the public that they have not blocked VPNs.

PTA spokesperson said in a statement that, “Recent news circulating in the media about the PTA blocking VPNs is incorrect. They have not blocked VPNs in Pakistan.

However, the PTA encourages all IT companies, software houses, freelancers, banks, and others to register their IP addresses for using VPNs to ensure uninterrupted internet service.”

The officials also explained that VPN registration is available on the PTA and Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) websites and that it is a “one-window operation.” The registration process only takes two to three days to register and is quite simple and is free.

Throughout the world, to access blocked or controlled content in certain regions and to improve online privacy, people use VPNs. Use of VPNs in Pakistan dramatically escalated in 2024. To gain access to X, many users have adapted to using VPNs.
