X is still banned in Pakistan

The Sindh High Court (SHC) informed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is not working in the country and the ban is still intact.

It was confirmed on the social media account of PTA that services of X are not restored, and it remains unreachable in Pakistan.

Ali Akbar, director of PTA, informed the SHC that the statement made on 12 September by its council about the withdrawal of notifications was a misunderstanding.

Ali Akbar added, “Another case is also being heard in the same bench, in which the notification regarding the establishment of the Steering Committee has been withdrawn.”

It was asked that the SHC either alter or take back its previous written order.

PTA’s attorney, Ahsan Imam, informed the court earlier on Friday that the government has taken its notification in respect of the ban of services of X in Pakistan back.

The SHC postponed the hearing for two weeks after the response of PTA’s attorney.

SHC instructed the Ministry of Interior on 17th April to retract its letter concerning the social media platform X ban within one week.

The prohibition on X was first implemented back in February of 2024, following the general elections.
