In a historic move Meta decided to help improve internet speed in Pakistan with the help of new undersea cable.

Talha Ahad from The Centrum Media (TCM) was joined by Simon Milner, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for the Asia Pacific region to talk about various topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), the creator economy and Meta’s plan to pay Pakistani creators and Meta’s attempts to encourage to innovative and responsible digital citizenship among Pakistani youth.

Meta will enhance Pakistan’s internet activity by installing 45,000-km- long undersea cable linking Karachi to other 33 countries in Africa and the Middle East. This project will dramatically better bandwidth, lessen latency and increase overall connection by the time it is completed in 2025.

By promising faster and more steady access to Meta services like Facebook, Instagram and the newly introduced Meta AI, users of Pakistan especially content creators should profit the most from this infrastructure investment.

Milner highlighted “provided that services are allowed to run freely here,” he emphasized that everyone in the Pakistan will benefit from it especially creators and he also pointed out the project’s potential impact on the digital ecosystem of the region.

Simon Milner highlighted the company’s dedication to promoting AI innovation in Pakistan Llama AI initiative. Pointing out the victory of a current AI competition, Milner said that Pakistan is among the first nations to gain from this proposal, which aspires to empower regional developers and boost technical advances.

Over 100 applicants were received for the competition, which was organized in collaboration with NITB, Ignite and the Ministry of IT. The solutions that were displayed included an AI-driven system to lessen court case backlogs and a tool of knowledge for those who are not uneducated.

The winning team will compete for $100,000 award against teams from 12 other Asian countries. The winning team will speak for Pakistan in Singapore. Milner continued, “This is just the tip of the iceberg.” emphasizing Meta’s contribution in the developing of tech ecosystem in Pakistan and its possibility to make a major influence on the global technology landscape.
