The world’s biggest mobile and floating solar power plant was pioneered in a step toward justified energy along the banks of the seine in Paris Olympic Village. Transported 900 meters, a 78 kWp solar installation will meet the needs of to the Olympic and Paralympic Square by providing clean energy, displaying its adaptability and effortless layout.
A subsection of the renowned energy firm EDF ENR leased this cutting-edge photovoltaic system specifically for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is set to transform the way green energy is used for big events like the Olympic and Paralympic Square, the central and festive site of the Athletes’ Village, where journalists, tourists and athletes gather.
These sites also have shops, and the competition is being projected live on large screens and shops.
Instead of supplying electricity to the national grid, this system modifies its production in real–time to match the site’s consumption. The temporary solar power plant runs on a self-consumption basis, with a capacity of 78 kWp, or the energy used by 94 apartments, and an astonishing 470 square meters.
Its key advantages are its ease of use and adaptability. The entire system can be deployed and disassembled efficiently.
Modern engineering’s ability to get this solar plant up and running is remarkable. In less than 24 hours, the installation is fully up and running. You can open the shipping container’s doors, pull out the solar wings with pre-wired connections, join them together, and plug the entire setup into the container, where the inverter, protection systems, and all electrical components are located.
“This is the first time in the world that we have sailed a photovoltaic power plant. Even if it was only 900 meters, the distance between the place where the installation is unloaded and where it is assembled.” Franck Chauveau, director of major project development for EDF in Île-de-France, told pv magazine France in an interview.
In locations not connected to the public electrical grid, this transportable and easy-to-set-up plant is ideal for temporary power supply.
