An astonishing rise in exports was witnessed by Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) sector in 2024, according to Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

There was a 34% rise in exports from $214 million in July 2023 to $286 million in July 2024.

But on a month-over-month basis, there was a minor 4% decrease in July.

This outstanding development was made public in a high-level meeting called by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In the meeting various IT projects were analyzed, which included the Islamabad IT Park as well as the Digital Smart Cities initiative.

With the help of The Digital Smart Cities project, residents will have access to 150 services, including law enforcement, education, and health, via the Islamabad City Super application.  The public was encouraged by Sharif to use mobile applications for accessing government services.

In addition, the number of people using mobile phones has climbed by 800,000, and the manufacture of mobile phones has increased by 30%.

Sharif made a point that the Islamabad IT Park is a crucial step toward reaching the goal of $25 billion IT export and will be essential to the government’s plan to develop the IT industry and boost economic expansion.

The park’s completion date has been pushed forward from June 2025 to February 2025 as a result of the Korean construction company’s faster work. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is now conducting regular inspections of the project while it is being developed consistently.

The Ministry of Information Technology made a statement in which Minister Shaza credited the remarkable rise to the government’s deliberate efforts to improve the IT sector’s worldwide rivalry.

Authorities expect that an investment of 77 million dollars in different IT projects will generate result of extra 2.5 billion in IT exports.

The broader target includes $10 billion from digital transformation, $2 billion from the telecom sector, and $13 billion from government-driven initiatives.

The larger goal consists of $13 billion in government-driven projects, $10 billion from digital transformation and $2 billion from the telecom industry.
