Mobile services suspended

Today (Monday) mobile phone services will be partially suspended in key cities across Pakistan in observance of chehlum of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain’s (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala.

Cellular services in six cities in Sindh which includes Karachi, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Shikarpur have been officially suspended according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

However, on Monday morning, mobile phone services in Karachi started to go down in a few different locations.

On Sunday, the Sindh Home Department said that Thatta, Dadu, Sajawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad and Rohri will also be affected by the suspension of services.

Following the orders of the Interior Ministry, this decision was made in an effort to keep the peace throughout the country’s chehlum festivities.

The PTA confirmed that during chehlum parade the mobile phone services will remain closed throughout the day to guarantee security. To keep the peace and to avert any unfortunate events, the authorities have stressed that the suspension of cellular services is a temporary but essential measure.
