Google has reported the launch of “Digital Sahafat”, a special program aimed to boost the digital journalism skills of Pakistani journalists.

The program is to equip 1,000 journalists around Pakistan with the instruments know-how, and materials required to produce truthful and captivating digital stories. Google is in collaboration with the regional social business Tech Valley.

In response to the increasing demand for expertise in digital journalism, Google has collaborated with Tech Valley.  The program also includes ARY News from Pakistan.

Pakistani journalists will get a hold of state of art technology, training and reservoirs with the help of “Digital Sahafat” or Digital Journalism. It will enable them to produce high quality digital content.

In addition, the project is part of the larger Google News Initiative (GNI), which has been working with thousands of news organizations in more than 100 countries since it launched in 2018.

The GNI is known within the news industry for its worldwide achievements to fight false information and encourage change.

The GNI gave a statement in which they said, “We’re very excited to announce the launch of Digital Sahafat, a program by the Google News Initiative, in partnership with Tech Valley, to equip 1,000 journalists in Pakistan with the essential tools, training, and resources to produce accurate and engaging digital news stories.”

The ‘Digital Sahafat’ program will be launched in Islamabad on September 4th. Kate Beddoe, managing director of Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) News Partnerships at Google, and the Tech Valley team will address the event.

Tech Valley was founded in 2015. It aims to bridge the gap between Pakistan’s public and private sectors, focusing on the association of academia, industry, and government through the promotion of technology and innovation.
