New verification guidelines shared by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to avoid fraud while buying or registering mobile phones. To withstand deception and guarantee consumer safety, the PTA has highlighted the importance of verifying the approval status of smartphones before purchase.

Due to the rise in unlawful activities buyers should be careful and must follow certain instructions to save themselves from getting tricked.

Here are some PTA verification guidelines:

  1. Avoid obtaining overly expensive smartphones on suspiciously low price or without warranty. These deals are red flags.
  2. Avoid buying phones that are not in their packaging. Always acquire mobile devices that come in their original, sealed packaging.
  3. One should always inspect the PTA stamp on the phones box, before completing the purchase.

IMEI Verification:

Consumers can check online to see if their devices are PTA verified and approved or not. They can check through following methods:

  1. To confirm the approval status of the phone visit https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/. Enter the IMEI number to receive real-time status updates.
  2. You can also check the verification through SMS. Send an SMS with the IMEI number to 8484. Instant confirmation of the device’s status can be obtained through this service.
  3. Consumers can also use DVS App. Download the Device Verification and Registration (DVS) app from the Play Store for Android devices or App Store for iPhone devices. Users can use this app to expediently confirm mobile phone status from their smartphones.
